Dutch are badly brought up!

The Dutch metro traveller will not offer their seat to elder and pregnant women.

Pijnacker, 31 March 2006: A study about the quality of the metro, conducted in 12 countries all over the world shows that the Dutch people will not stand up for Elder people, pregnant women and disabled persons.

The Netherlands has the worst score for this item.

In this study, conducted in the Netherlands by ITC International we were mainly looking at the surroundings of the metro and the metro stations, the customer friendliness of the employees and the level of information with the metro in Amsterdam.

The results of this study also show that employees of the Amsterdam Metro can’t speak with “two words” and in 50% of the cases not smiling or looking at the clients face.

However, the Dutch Metro employee is more customer friendly than his colleagues in the other countries; mainly in Portugal, Singapore and the United States employees do react rather bored. In the Netherlands, people are very satisfied with the average waiting time. Customers are being served within 3 minutes and the employees take their time helping and supporting the metro customer.

Besides 83,3% of the Dutch people get very annoyed about the bad smell in the metro and the stations. Even on the platform, people are complaining about the bad smell. In almost all investigated countries the smell in the metro stations will be experienced as “unhappy”, only in the USA people are more positive about the odour in the metro. In general, Dutch people are satisfied about the cleanliness of the station; waste-baskets will be emptied regularly, the tracks are clean and also the seats in the metro are rather clean.
